Donald Trump Uses 'Pokémon Go' to Attack Hillary Clinton

July 14th 2016

As if the "Pokémon Go" craze hadn't already captured almost every aspect of American culture, on Thursday, the augmented reality game crossed over into the 2016 presidential race.

Perhaps in answer to an upcoming Hillary Clinton campaign event at an Ohio "Pokémon Go" gym, Donald Trump shared a brief Pokémon-themed attack ad on his Facebook page.

The ad — captioned "CROOKED HILLARY NO!"— depicts the former secretary of state as a "Career Politician" type of Pokémon, described as, "Often found lying to the American people, rigging the system, and sharing TOP SECRET emails."

In the ad, a user of the game appears to toss a Pokéball at Clinton and easily capture her.

The video may have been firing back at Clinton's camp for a rather scathing attack ad on Instagram early Thursday morning that shows young children watching Trump make various inflammatory remarks on television. It's also possible, though not likely, that Trump has gotten into the popular game since telling the Washington Examiner in an interview published earlier that day that he was too busy to play it.

Also on Thursday, Clinton said she was trying to determine how to get voters to "'Pokémon Go' to the polls" at a Virginia campaign event.

What a time to be alive.
