Former Donald Trump Employees Say He Likes to Listen

June 30th 2016

Former employees at Donald Trump's private club in Florida say that the Republican presidential candidate likes to eavesdrop.

Six former workers told BuzzFeed News that Trump had a telephone console at his personal room at Mar-a-Lago where he could listen in on staff, guests, and members' phone conversations.

The employees said that Trump listened to calls between staff and guests on the club's phone lines in the mid-2000s, but they did not know if he had done it more recently, according to BuzzFeed. Four of the six employees spoke to BuzzFeed on the condition of anonymity because they signed non-disclosure agreements. They said that they only knew of Trump listening to calls that involved at least one staff member and not private calls between two guests or club members.

Mar-a-Lago is a private mansion with more than 100 rooms that Trump bought in 1985 and used as his own private home until 1995. Now rooms are rented out to club members like a resort. It has a swimming pool, spa, tennis courts, and a Donald J. Trump Grand Ballroom, according to club's website.

People on Twitter had strong reactions to BuzzFeed's report on Trump's listening habits.

ATTN: reached out to the Trump campaign and has yet to hear back. However, Buzzfeed reported that Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks said that the accusations were not true.
