Ariel Winter Posted a Graduation Photo and People Reacted in an Offensive Way

June 21st 2016

"Modern Family" actress Ariel Winter has a lot to be excited about right now. The 18-year-old is attending UCLA in the fall, and just had "the most amazing graduation party ever," according to her new Instagram photo:

But after Winter posted the picture of her important moment, she received a lot of negative comments. One person even made a rude remark about her dress, criticizing her choice after she publicly spoke about having breast reduction surgery:

Another commenter questioned her maturity and seemed to imply the horrible notion that dressing a certain way is "asking for it."

Someone else questioned why she didn't choose "a different look" for the sake of her family at the party:

This isn't the first time Winter has faced slut-shaming on social media.

None of this is new territory for the teenage actress. Last year, Winter was shamed on Instagram after posting the following photo of herself in a bikini next to her nieces:

Winter mentioned the slut-shaming comments in a separate Instagram post about the harmful consequences of slut-shaming women:

"Who knew that an innocent photo with my nieces would turn into this?" she wrote at the time. "The height of a girl's skirt or whatever she is wearing for that matter, does not imply what she is asking for. It sickens me to think at 17 years old, a photo of myself with my nieces is suggesting that I'm 'asking for it.'"

Girls everywhere should not be treated a certain way because of their clothing choices, she wrote.

"I typically never give power to the mean things people bravely say behind their computer screens on the Internet, but this is for the girls who are constantly bullied whether it be online or at school. You are not asking for anything because of what you are wearing- you are expressing yourself and don't you ever think you deserve the negativity as the consequence to what you are wearing- YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL."
