The Sexist Way This Restaurant Server Was Humiliated by Her Employer

June 16th 2016

Being a server at a restaurant isn't easy, and sometimes, it seems especially harder for women, who may have to deal with the wage gap or sexist uniform codes. And just when you thought you've heard it all, along comes a new, bewildering form of sexism.

A server at a Scotty's Brewhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., alleges that her employer presented her with a "Best Butt" award at a company function, reports Fox 59 in Indianapolis. Among a group of about 50 employees, who were given normal accolades like "Best Bartender" or "Best Server," one unnamed woman, who worked at Scotty's for over a year, was humiliated by being reduced to "Best Butt."

"I feel like I’m more than just a butt," she apparently told the news station. "I feel like I’m smart, I’m going to school."

She allegedly took the issue to human resources, who instead of apologizing and offering a solution, was told that it was "not their idea."

The situation gets even more frustrating, because the server claims that she cannot afford to quit her job at Scotty's. "I have two jobs so I can make money and continue to go to school, and then get my degree and not work two jobs anymore," Fox 59 reports. She is consulting with an attorney.

ATTN: reached out to Scotty's and was told to call the corporate office. We were unable to speak with anyone at corporate and will update if we do receive a response.
