Hashtag Gives the Middle Finger to the Hate That Prompted the Orlando Attack

June 13th 2016

In response to the mass shooting at the gay night club Pulse that left 50 dead and 53 wounded early Sunday morning, the hashtag #TwoMenKissing is being shared widely on social media to show solidarity with the LGBTQ community.

Seddique Mir Mateen, the father of the shooter Omar Mateen, told NBC News on Sunday that his son had previously expressed anger over seeing two men kiss. Following news of the father's statement, gay men started posting photos of themselves kissing other men on social media to take a stand against the bigotry that may have played a role in the attack.

The tweets send a powerful message about love and acceptance overcoming intolerance.
