Prom is usually a night filled with joy and celebration. But thanks to some online body shamers, it's a night one high schooler will unfortunately never forget.

The photo went viral the next day, with people all over chiming in about Jones' appearance. Although most of the negative comments have been removed, the comments were a huge blow to Jones' confidence and self-esteem. In response to the backlash, she eventually updated her Facebook status to say that she wished she never attended her prom nor posted the picture, according to Fox 29.

"It was just really hurtful because I was so confident the day before and it just changed my view of myself," Jones told Fox 29.

Though the image of Jones proved to be fodder for body-shamers, it also helped sparked a conversation about body-positivity and anti-bullying. Even singer Kelly Rowland rose to Jones' defense.

According to the Cyberbullying Research Center about half of young people have experienced some form of cyber bullying and 10 to 20 percent experience it regularly. In addition, the most common form cyber bullying is spreading rumors and posting mean and hurtful comments.
