The Nick Young vs. Iggy Azalea Scandal Exposes the Gross Hypocrisy of 'Guy Code'

March 30th 2016

NBA player Nick Young cheated on his fiancée Australian rapper Iggy Azalea and got caught in grand fashion. Young admitted it on tape.

His teammate on the Los Angeles Lakers, D’Angelo Russell, is rumored to be the one who recorded Young talking about cheating with a 19-year-old woman. Although it's unclear if Young knew if he was being recorded, or if Russell used a hidden camera on his teammate, the main controversy seems to revolve around Russell's violation of "guy code" and not Young's violation of his engagement.

It seems that Azalea has seen the videos and showed support for Russell on her Twitter account. However, she may be one of few supporters.

Backlash for Young pales in comparison to the trouble Russell is facing for breaking "guy code." ESPN's Baxter Holmes and Marc Stein reported that fellow Lakers players have lost their trust in Russell.

"While it's unclear how the video became public, sources say the resulting tension in the Lakers' locker room in recent days was among the factors that contributed to L.A.'s limp showing in Salt Lake City on Monday night, when they absorbed a 48-point pounding from the Utah Jazz. The loss was the Lakers' worst in franchise history."

Earlier this week, ATTN: reported that singer Kehlani faced huge Twitter backlash for accusations that she cheated on NBA player Kyrie Irving with hip-hop artist PartyNextDoor. She then apparently attempted suicide. Twitter users were quick to point out the double standard.

ATTN: reported last week that Young was also accused of sexually harassing the leader of a women's empowerment group along with teammate Jordan Clarkson on a street corner in Hollywood. Regardless of whether Azalea keeps Young around, it seems the double standard of "guy code" is here to stay.
