Donald Trump's Campaign Manager Turns Himself in to Police

March 29th 2016

Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is in trouble.

The top aid to the presidential hopeful turned himself in to police on Tuesday and was charged with misdemeanor battery and simple assault for allegedly grabbing a former Breitbart.com reporter at news conference in Florida.

These charges come as the result of the March 8 incident that led the reporter, Michelle Fields, to post photos of her bruises online. ATTN: wrote about about the incident earlier this month.

Trump's campaign quickly came to the defense of Lewandowski on Tuesday, issuing a statement asserting "Mr Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge."

Lewandowki's lawyer also released a statement, which was shared on Twitter:

Lewandowski previously denied the accusations, and even directly replied to Field's Tweets after she filed assault charges against him.  “You are totally delusional. I never touched you," he wrote. " As a matter of fact, I have never even met you.”

However a surveillance video released by the Jupiter, Florida police department does show Lewandowski grab Fields — who is wearing a tan blazer — and pull her away from Trump.

The video seems to match Fields' description of the altercation, which she posted on Briebart on March 10

Trump acknowledged the question, but before he could answer I was jolted backwards. Someone had grabbed me tightly by the arm and yanked me down. I almost fell to the ground, but was able to maintain my balance. Nonetheless, I was shaken.

Trump himself has also denied any wrongdoing on Lewdanowski's part, and claims Fields' accusations are being blown out of proportion.

Fields and several other Breitbart staff members resigned after the original incident in early March, saying that the notably pro-Trump media outlet did not have Field's back against the the mogul's campaign.

Accusations of sexism have dogged Trump's campaign. In particular, Trump has feuded with Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly, who he infamously claimed was irritated during one of the network's debates because she had "blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
