The New York Daily News has taken more than a few shots at this year's Republican primary contenders. On Friday, the paper released a cover page eviscerating New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his Friday morning endorsement of Republican front-runner and longstanding Daily News target Donald Trump. Trump earned the support of former KKK grand wizard David Duke two days earlier.

The cover depicts Christie standing with his mouth agape in front of two KKK Klansmen, and it reads "MAN WITH A KLAN," a reference to both the white nationalist's support of Trump and murmurs that Christie is hoping to earn the Vice President slot on the Trump ticket.

"I will lend my support between now and November in any way for Donald," Christie told reporters in Texas, on Friday.

Duke asserted that "voting against Donald Trump at this point, is really treason to your heritage," on a Wednesday radio show.

While the New York Daily News made a bold statement, and neither Trump nor Christie have been affiliated with the KKK in any official capacity, white supremacists have voiced their support for Trump online throughout his campaign. Trump, for his part, told Texas reporters he disavowed Duke's support on Friday.

Trump and Christie have a common rival in Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who Christie slammed in a January GOP debate shortly before he dropped out of the primary race. Trump, whose vitriol has been primarily directed at Texas Sen. Ted Cruz throughout the campaign, has recently gone after Rubio, who is now arguably the greatest threat to Trump getting the Republican nomination.

Trump circulated this meme after Thursday's GOP debate.

Christie also mentioned his friendship with Trump in his endorsement, according to The Washington Post. "Donald Trump is someone who when he makes a promise, he keeps it," Christie stated. "No one is going to get inside this guy's head. There is no better fighter than Donald Trump."
