Killer Mike Says Hillary Clinton's Uterus Doesn't Qualify Her to Be President

February 17th 2016

Rapper and fervid supporter of Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, Killer Mike, came under fire Tuesday night after saying that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not suited for the presidency just because she is a woman.

At a Sanders Rally in Atlanta, Killer Mike quoted a conversation he had with the social activist Jane Elliott. "I talked to Jane Elliott a few weeks ago, and Jane said, 'Michael, a uterus doesn't qualify you to be president of the United States,'" Killer Mike stated.

The same sentiment has resonated with some younger voters — especially young women — who balked at the notion that they were obligated to support Clinton's campaign just because she is a woman. But Killer Mike's comments did not necessarily come off that way. You can watch the clip here:

On Twitter, the rapper was accused of sexism due to the comments.

The rapper defended himself, and sought to clarify points made in his speech, saying that the context explained away any inkling of sexism the comments might have implied.

Earlier this month, prominent feminist figures supporting Clinton's campaign were lambasted after criticizing young women who were rooting for Sanders. Gloria Steinem suggested during a talk show interview that young women were chasing boys in the Sanders camp, and Madeline Albright repeated her well-known phrase that there is a special place in hell for women who don't support other women.
