Everybody knows that one of the best ways to judge someone is by their Google search history. You learn a lot about their interests, concerns, values, and questions. The same goes for states, says Estately, a real estate website that created a map of each state's most Googled searches.

Take away from the map what you will, but many of the results speak for themselves. Ohio was interested in marijuana legalization, of course, because the state voted on, and subsequently rejected, a ballot initiative to legalize for medical and recreational purposes. Other are more cryptic. (e.g. Why was "Pluto" so popular in New Mexico?)

The map is a chaotic throwback to a year of many twists and turns, ups and downs. It's a reminder of movements such as Black Lives Matter, historic legislation like the Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality, scandals like the Ashley Madison leak, and other events and from 2015, like the removal of the Confederate battle flag from many state capitals.

"To do this Estately ran hundreds of search terms through Google Trends to discover what people in each state searched for more with more frequency than people in any other state," the report reads. "From tragic violence and celebrity breakups to presidential primaries and space exploration, there was plenty of things to occupy Americans’ time on the internet."
