Young Boy Asked To Be 'Frozen's' Elsa For Halloween And His Dad Responded Perfectly

October 7th 2015

Little kids get excited about Halloween, and the upcoming holiday forces children to make some complicated decisions: which neighborhoods will have the best candy options, which friends will be the most fun to go trick-or-treating with, and, of course, what costume they'll choose for the big night.

Virginia native Paul Henson knows how important Halloween is to young kids, so he wanted to give his son Caiden the best Halloween possible this year. When Caiden asked to be Elsa from 2013 Disney hit "Frozen," Henson said yes and posted a photo of his son in costume on Facebook:

"Anyone that knows us, knows we generally let Caiden make his own choices, to an extent," Henson wrote. "Well, he has decided on a Halloween costume. He wants to be Elsa. He also wants me to be Anna. Game on ... Halloween is about children pretending to be their favorite characters. Just so happens, this week his is a princess."

The following day, Henson was stunned to find his post went viral on social media, with many people celebrating his parenthood, and his acceptance of his son's interest in princesses.

“I woke up the next morning and I was like, ‘holy crap it’s been shared a couple thousand times,’” Henson told BuzzFeed News. “I couldn’t log into my Facebook.”

Henson added that he didn't think he was "doing anything out of the ordinary" by allowing his son to be Elsa, but said his advice to parents would be to support their kids no matter what.

“Support your children, love them, they look up to you as their heroes,” he said. “Why not help them achieve their goals?”

Earlier this year, production company founder Mikki Willis went viral for posting a video on Facebook about letting his his son Azai select a mermaid doll for his birthday.

In the clip, Willis says that Azai recently received duplicate presents for his birthday and that they went to a local toy store to get a replacement item. Willis then reveals a mermaid doll, which he says Azai picked out at the toy store.

"How do you think a dad feels when a son wants to get this?" Willis asks, holding up the doll.

"Yeah!" Azai shouts happily.

"Yeah!" Willis cheers. "That's how I feel."

Willis goes on to focus the camera on his other son and says, "Right Zuri? I let my boys choose their life."

"That's how mama and I are," Willis continues. "We just say whatever. We say yeah, choose it. Choose your expression, choose what you're into, choose your sexuality, choose whatever. You have my promise right now, both of you as we sit in this hot car in this parking lot, you have my promise forever to love you and accept you no matter what life you choose."
