Stories We'd Rather See Gender-Swapped Than Twilight

October 6th 2015

On Tuesday, "Twilight" creator Stephenie Meyer released a gender-swapped version of the hit young adult novel (turned vampire movie franchise). The gender-swapped book celebrates the 10 year anniversary of "Twilight." Instead of the lead characters Bella and Edward, we'll be meeting Beau and Edythe.

I'm all about giving young women some lady driven novels to reaffirm positive feminist ideals, but the "Twilight" series comes with a lot more ideological baggage than just a damsel in distress. So thank you for the effort Meyer. Seriously. But these seven novels might be better segues on our path to gender equality.

1. "Game of Thrones"

Cersei just wants to rule the whole darn thing herself, so why don't we let her?!!

2. "Harry Potter"

If it was up to Hermione to defeat Voldemort we probably wouldn't have seven "Harry Potter" books. (Not saying that's a good thing.)

3. "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World"

In fact, lets get more female driven graphic novels across the board.

4. "The Hunger Games"

I love Katniss as much as the next Hunger Games buff, but wouldn't it be nice to see Peeta do something for once?

5. "James Bond"

All this talk about casting the next Bond and no one brings up Dame Judi Dench?! For shame!

6. "The Notebook"

"I wrote you everyday for a year!" Now write me a version of this story where Noah runs to Allie in the rain.

7. And the entire Marvel Universe. Thank you.
