Disturbing New Video of Cops Punching an Unarmed Woman After a Traffic Stop

October 5th 2015

A new video appears to show two Carlsbad, California, police officers holding down and beating 40-year-old Cindy Hahn after she was pulled over for a seatbelt violation on July 31, 2013.

Hahn had called the police earlier that day to report an officer who had cursed at her after she asked what he was doing standing near a car with its alarm sounding and doors open.

"[H]e says, 'Is this your car?’ And I said, 'No, sir,'" Hahn told CBS Los Angeles. "And he says, 'Then mind your own fucking business.'"

Shortly after she called to report the incident, Hahn said that she was pulled over by the same officer and promptly pinned to the ground. Once backup arrived, she alleges that one officer held her down as the other punched and kneed her—a scene that was recorded in part by an eyewitness and recently released.

Hahn was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The San Diego District Attorney dropped the charges in July of this year, and Hahn is currently suing the city of Carlsbad and the officers involved.

In a statement, the city wrote that it "looks forward to bringing this lawsuit before the proper judicial authorities as soon as possible. We are prepared to provide a complete and detailed account of the facts of this incident in a courtroom, not in the media."

Hahn's father, Mike Dalton, a retired police officer, said, "There was no need to punch her in the face when he ran up on the scene."

"There was no need to punch her any further. All he did was deliver a lot of punishment that was totally unnecessary," Dalton added.
