Andy Samberg Nails Kim Davis' Marriage Hypocrisy

September 21st 2015

On Sunday, Emmys host Andy Samberg kicked off the awards show with a monologue that touched on television, politics, diversity, and yes Kim Davis.

The former SNL cast-mate and current star of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," joked about Paula Deen being on "Dancing With the Stars."

"If I wanted to see an intolerant woman dance," Samberg stated, "I would've gone to one of four of Kim Davis' weddings."

The Food Network fired Deen in 2013 after a controversy erupted over her use of racial slurs.

Samberg continued his joke by referencing Davis' stage entrance to the song "Eye of the Tiger" after being released from jail. "It's amazing that Kim Davis came out of jail to 'Eye of the Tiger,' considering how many guys have boned each other to that song," Samberg joked.

Naturally the Internet erupted. Davis—the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for five days and subsequently released for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples—gained a level of infamy (and her fair share of supporters, including presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee) over the last several weeks. She even garnered high profile responses from actor George Takei and comedian Bill Maher, who took her to task for not following the law.
