Tom Hardy's Perfect Response to a Question About His Sexuality

British actor Tom Hardy shut down a question about his sexuality during a weekend appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival.

During a press conference for his new movie, "Legend," which premiered at the festival on September 12, Hardy cut off a reporter from LGBT site Daily Xtra for inquiring about his sexuality. Hardy and "Legend" director Brian Helgeland looked at the reporter with apparent disbelief:

“In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality, but given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous," the journalist said. "Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?"

“What on earth are you on about?” Hardy said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The reporter went on to explain that he was referring to a 2008 interview Hardy did with Attitude magazine in which the actor was asked whether he'd ever had sexual relations with men. At the time, Hardy said, "Of course I have. I’m an actor for fuck’s sake. I’m an artist. I’ve played with everything and everyone. But I’m not into men sexually. I love the form and the physicality but the gay sex bit does nothing for me. In the same way as a wet vagina would turn someone else into a lemon-sucking freak. To me it just doesn’t compute now I’m into my 30s and it doesn’t do it for me and I’m done experimenting."

While Hardy was candid about this matter seven years ago, he wouldn't discuss the topic over the weekend.

“I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality,” Hardy said to the reporter. “Are you asking me about my sexuality?”

"Um, sure," the reporter said.

"Why?" Hardy said before cutting off the reporter to end the conversation.

Many praised Hardy on social media for refusing to broach the subject of his sexuality at a promotional event for his new film. Here are some reactions to the viral clip:
