Connie Britton's Secret to Beautiful Hair Is Perfect

September 10th 2015

Gorgeous, richly colored curls are a signature style of "Nashville" actress Connie Britton. What’s the secret to her majestic mane? Britton will tell you, but, spoiler alert: it isn’t a product you can buy in the hair and beauty aisle.

In a mock-shampoo add, Britton explains that her secret is feminism: a woman's right to vote, fair pay, the Violence Against Women Act, the right to choose what to do with your body, Title IX, and more.

The video also features Britton's "Nashville" co-star Laura Benanti (who wrote, co-produced, and directed the video), and it ends with a list of "side effects of feminism," which include education for women worldwide, support for victims of domestic violence, and the "wisdom" to ignore the comments.

Britton and Benanti's video kicks off the third annual #AskHerMore campaign from the organization the Representation Project. Because what is more important than a woman’s hair? Just about everything.

"Feminism," Britton explains. "It's not what's on my head, it's what's in it."

#AskHerMore is leading up to the 67th Emmy Awards on September 20. The initiative is encouraging red carpet journalists to go above and beyond the superficial, exterior questions that are often asked at such shows.

Similar campaigns were cultivated for the 2014 Emmy Awards and 2015 Oscars.
