Many on the Internet, including George Takei, reacted with fury on Tuesday as Kim Davis, the defiant Rowan County clerk who refused to marry gay couples despite the Supreme Court's summer ruling, walked on stage to the song "Eye of the Tiger" at a rally following her release from jail.

The timeless and popular song, which was released in 1982 by the American rock band Survivor, is about overcoming challenges. It includes lyrics such as, "risin' up, back on the street, did my time, took my chances, went the distance, now I'm back on my feet, just a man and his will to survive." The song remains one of the best-selling singles and most downloaded rock songs of all time.

Davis, who broke down in tears on stage alongside Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, invoked religion in her speech at the event. Davis' reason for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses was due to religious beliefs.

"I just want to give God the glory," she said. "His people have rallied and you are a strong people ... Just keep on pressing. Don't let down because He is here."
