Caitlyn Jenner Is 'Blown Away' by John Oliver's Transgender Rights Comments

July 13th 2015

Caitlyn Jenner, who made her beautiful debut as a trans woman this summer, is definitely a John Oliver fan now

On his HBO show, Oliver recently emphasized the obstacles and discrimination faced by the trans community, which is subject to higher rates of violence. "We've clearly got work to do," Oliver said.

Oliver also mocked media portrayals of trans people, explaining how trans people often feel dehumanized by those who discriminate.

“It’s pretty simple: call them whatever they want to be called," said Oliver in reference to respecting gender identity. "You can do it. We do it all the time. David Evans woke up one day and said, ‘Everyone call me The Edge.’ And we all went, ‘Fine, The Edge, are we talking the noun or the verb?'"

Jenner, whose transition was one of the most high-profile in recent history, was clearly impressed, commending Oliver:

Last week, the 65-year-old former Olympian and now trans public figure, released her first blog post to help educate people about trans rights and her transition. She spoke about having dinner with a group of trans women and talking about how they had overcome adversity years before. Jenner readily admits that she has a lot to learn about the transgender movement, the Advocate points out.

Jenner plans on opening up more about her life in the upcoming reality series 'I am Cait,' which premieres on July 26 on E!.
