Dove Just Released a Pretty Revolutionary Father's Day Ad

June 17th 2015

Dove just released a Father's Day video showing a series of men finding out that they are going to be dads. The emotionally charged clip, which is part of Dove's #RealStrength campaign, includes many tears of joy, and also features a same-sex couple the moment they meet their adopted baby boy at 0:34:

“This Father’s Day, our new Dove Men+Care film celebrates men from the very first moment they find out they are going to be a dad,” Dove says. “Why? Because we know that showing care is a sign of a man’s real strength.”

According to NewNowNext.com, Ian and Darryl Colvin are the same-sex couple in the video. Last year, the Colvins were in a mini-documentary called "Gays With Kids," which, like the Dove ad, captures the moment they see Oliver, the “newborn baby boy they never thought they’d have.”

"Yes, our son is adopted, but within that moment it was like ... as soon as you see [him] ... it was like, this is our son," the couple said.

The Dove Father's Day campaign comes a week after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) signed three pieces of legislation into law that allows private adoption services to refuse children to same-sex couples on religious grounds. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is planning to challenge the law in court.

As we reported last week, here are some powerful Twitter responses to the Michigan legislation, which many say will make it harder on gay couples to start families:
