12 Women with Hilarious #DistractinglySexy Responses to Tim Hunt

June 12th 2015

Earlier this week, 2001 Nobel Prize winner Tim Hunt came under fire for saying women pose distractions to men in science and should work in separate labs. His remarks, which he made at the World Conference of Science Journalists in South Korea, were so widely criticized that he went on to resign from his position as Honorary Professor with the University College London (UCL) Faculty of Life Sciences.

So what did he say that was so offensive?

“Let me tell you about my trouble with girls," Hunt said at the World Conference of Science Journalists in South Korea. "Three things happen when they are in the lab… You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry.”

Many people didn't like this, and the UCL condemned his comments in a statement about his departure, "UCL was the first university in England to admit women students on equal terms to men, and the university believes that this outcome is compatible with our commitment to gender equality."

What female scientists have to say about Hunt

Female scientists immediately responded to Hunt's discriminatory remarks, but they also found humor in the situation by starting a #distractinglysexy hashtag, which further highlights the absurdity of Hunt's beliefs. Here are some awesome #distractifyinglysexy responses from female scientists.
