Julia Roberts Made A Brilliant Video About Climate Change

June 2nd 2015

In a video for the non-profit organization, Conservational International, actress Julia Roberts narrates the voice of Mother Earth, to caution us about her formidable nature and remind us how exactly how little she needs human beings to continue her existence. "I've been here for over 4.5 billion years, 22,500 times longer than you," she says. "I don't really need people. But people need me. Yes, your future depends on me. When I thrive, you thrive. When I falter, you falter or worse."

This video is unique because it doesn't take the typical conservationist view that we are doing the earth a favor when we take care of it. It reminds us that the earth doesn't belong to us, we rely on it to survive. So you can deny climate change if you want, but every reputable scientist says it is happening, and if we don't do our best to stop it... Well, Mother Earth said it best, "Your actions will determine your fate."

Recently, ATTN: partnered with the organization Defend Our Future to release a video called If the Earth Treated Us the Way We Treat the Earth

The video satirically demonstrates the following dangerous trends:

Melting ice: Since 1991, more than two-thirds of glacier melting has been caused by humans.

Oil spills: The BP oil rig that blew in 2010 released 172 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. We’re still cleaning it up.

Air pollution: humans release 40 billion tons of carbon dioxide, a primary driver of climate change, every single year.

Deforestation: It causes 15 percent of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions.

Trash: The world produces 2.6 trillion pounds of garbage every year.
