Bill Maher on Marijuana in the Age of Donald Trump

April 20th 2017

During a wide-ranging interview for HBO, ATTN: Editor-in-Chief Matthew Segal sat down with comedian Bill Maher to talk through Donald Trump's first 100 days in office.

They discussed everything from what letter grade Maher would give the new president (spoiler: it's not high) to Republicans failure to grasp the consequences of climate change.

On the subject of drug policy, Maher was unsparing in his criticism of both Trump and his Attorney General, the avowed anti-marijuana crusader Jeff Sessions.

"They don't care about evidence [that marijuana is safer than alcohol and painkillers,]" Maher said. "We live in the age of 'alternative facts.' In his gut, [Trump] knows that marijuana is dangerous."

The fight over marijuana's use and safety "is a debate we shouldn't have been having since I was child," Maher concludes.
