Democrats Fire Back After Trump Accuses Obama of Spying on Him

March 4th 2017

Congressional Democrats are unhappy with President Donald Trump—more so than usual. They spent Saturday hammering him on social media for accusing President Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower during the presidential campaign without providing any evidence it happened.

An Obama spokesperson released a statement quickly denying the claims without specifically referring to Trump or the allegations. Many Democrats, though, seemed to argue on Twitter that Trump was either lying or trying to distract the American people from the need to have a special prosecutor investigate his ties to Russia.

Some Democrats did not appear to dismiss the possibility that Trump Tower had been wiretapped. They did, however, point out that a federal judge would have had to approve the surveillance after being presented with probable cause indicating that there was reason to be suspicious of the Trump campaign’s activities.
