Here’s the Easiest Way to Make Your Political Voice Heard

January 27th 2017

President Donald Trump's first week in office is coming to a close, and amidst a slew of executive ordersconfirmation hearings, and congressional votes it's easy to forget your ability to participate in the political process doesn't end on election day.

Luckily, a volunteer group created a simple website that makes political participation a tad less daunting.

The site 5calls.org curates a list of current issues and provides resources to call the appropriate member or members of congress. Once you input your zip code, it provides you with a phone number and script you can use.

As the New York Times reports, calling your legislator is widely considered more effective than emailing their offices.

The site's creators advise putting five minutes aside to make five one-minute-calls.

Once you finish a call, you can tally how it went.

Though the site's ethos is quite obviously left-leaning — with pages dedicated to opposing Trump's proposed border wall, immigration policies, and cabinet picks — you can create your own script or modify theirs if you don't agree with the platform.

As TechCrunch notes, 5Calls.org has also made its source code open to the public.

The election outcome was certainly contentious. But no matter which way you voted, calling your representative is a good way to stay involved.
