After facing a week of criticism, President-elect Donald Trump looks to be taking steps to fulfill an oft-repeated campaign promise to remove corporate influence from Washington, an anonymous source told the Wall Street Journal.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who recently took charge of the transition from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, reportedly ordered the firing of all lobbyists who are part the team.

The report arrives amid heavy criticism over the Trump team appointments, which included several current or former lobbyists, despite his pledge to "drain the swamp."

According to an NPR report, the team included numerous current or former lobbyists or board members of lobbying firms, with clients ranging from Koch Companies, Dow Chemical, defense company BAE Systems, and the tobacco company Altria.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) blasted Trump over the hires in a letter Tuesday. Warren argued these links to special interest groups and insiders undercut Trump's promise to advocate for middle-class Americans.

From Warren:

"You made numerous promises to the American people in your election campaign, none bigger than the promise to ‘drain the swamp' of Washington D.C. special interests rigged against the middle class. The decisions you make with your transition team will shape the next four years of this nation. They will also reflect the strength of your character and your ability to truly lead--not just follow the marching orders of the special interests and Wall Street bankers you purportedly oppose."

Trump pledged to crack down on lobbying in an October 17 ethics proposal, which included renewed bans on former congressmen, staffers, and executive branch employees from lobbying after their leave their posts.
