Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claimed a victory in the state of Virginia Tuesday evening.

As Vox explains, Virginia is a swing states counted among Clinton's Democratic "firewall."

The news arrived in an otherwise difficult evening for Clinton — with votes still too close to call in Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio.

Though Clinton managed to pull ahead of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, the results show a significantly tighter race in Virginia than was predicted. Trump's odds have spiked significantly in the New York Times election forecast over the course of Tuesday evening.
