In a dramatic upset, Trump defied predictions from multiple news organizations that had his opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, with a comfortable lead nationally. He won critical battleground states, including Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Clinton called Trump to concede the election. At a victory speech early Wednesday, Trump said that "Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to this country."

"It is time for us to come together as one united people," Trump said. "For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so we can unify our great country."
