November 8th 2016

The first state to legalize marijuana for medical use 20 years ago has officially legalized the plant for recreational use as well, according to a projection from the Associated Press.

California's legalization vote is significant given the Golden State's history of influencing state and federal policy. It's also because the state, which has already established a rich cannabis culture and sizeable medical marijuana system, is expected to become an economic powerhouse within the marijuana industry.

With five percent of the vote counted, Proposition 64 is leading with 54 percent support.
