An Italian woman who fell victim to revenge porn last year committed suicide, according to multiple reports.

Tiziana Cantone, a 31-year-old from Naples, gained massive, unwanted attention after footage showing her engaging in a sexual act was posted online in 2015. Italian publication Blitz Quotidiano reported that Cantone made the video herself to send to an ex-boyfriend and that the video swiftly circulated all over the internet. According to the Independent, she had the video wiped from search engines last year but it can still be found online, and the video prompted a lot of people to harass her on social media. She ultimately left her job and moved to a remote location. Though some European countries such as France and Germany have established policies to prevent revenge porn, Italy does not appear to have any laws in place for dealing with revenge porn.

“I wonder how anyone can be so fierce, how to rage against a girl who has not done anything wrong," Cantone's friend Teresa Petrosino, told Italian publication Corriere della Sera, as translated by the Independent. "I think that they should be ashamed of all those who have filled the web of insults and meanwhile secretly watched the images.”

Cantone, sadly, is not the only victim of revenge porn to have committed suicide.

In 2013, a 17-year-old Brazilian woman took her own life after a sex tape of her, a male, a female, and minors was posted online, BuzzFeed reported. A survey from the organization End Revenge Porn found that more than half of victims of revenge porn reported having suicidal thoughts because of what they've been through.

Earlier this year, a revenge porn victim who used the fake name Natalie told The Daily Beast that falling victim to revenge porn can make a person feel like their life is over.

"You think right now that it is the end of the world but, trust me, it isn’t,” she said.
