Elizabeth Banks Roasts Donald Trump on Live TV Over the 'The Hunger Games'

July 26th 2016

"Hunger Games" star Elizabeth Banks delivered a short and scathing roast of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and last week's Republican National Convention at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.

The actress satirically accused Trump of borrowing from her "Hunger Games" performance. Banks plays the film's complex character in the books-turned-film franchise.

“Some of you know me from "The Hunger Games," in which I play Effie Trinket, a cruel, out of touch reality TV star, who wears insane wigs while delivering long-winded speeches to a violent dystopia," Banks said hilariously. "So, when I tuned in to Cleveland last week, I was like, ‘Hey! That’s MY act!’"

Some Twitter users hailed her comedic bit.

But Banks' entrance may have been her best joke of all.

The actress emerged from blue fog and walked on to the tune of "We Are the Champions" — a parody of Trump's bizarre RNC entrance last Thursday.

The Trump campaign has spurred discussion over political candidates' arguably contradictory roles as policy leaders and entertainers, as well as the chaos facing the candidate's own party.

Stephen Colbert hammered this point home when he stormed the RNC stage in "Hunger Games" garb last week.

Many people also drew "Hunger Games" parallels on Twitter.

Even before the convention, some compared the Republican Party's 'clown car' primary run to the blockbuster hit.

You can watch Banks’ entrance and more of her speech on CSPAN’s Twitter page.

Correction: 7/27 9:58 a.m. PST: A previous version of this story stated that Effie Trinket's character is a villainess. That is incorrect.
