Hillary Clinton Has One Word for Senators Who Just Voted Against Gun Control

June 20th 2016

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has one word for senators who blocked a series of gun reform amendments on Monday.

"Enough."

In a statement issued shortly after the vote, Hillary Clinton repeated the tagline used by gun control advocates and Senate Democrats to stoke support for reforms aimed at expanding background checks and blocking suspected terrorists from purchasing weapons.

The rest of the statement consisted of a list of 49 names — victims who were killed in a shooting rampage last Sunday in Orlando, Florida.

Senators voted down four gun control measures on Monday — two backed by Republicans, two backed by Democrats — just over a week after the shooting.

Clinton hounded Senate Republicans for blocking reforms in the statement. But others on Twitter called out some Senate Democrats — Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Sen. Joe Manchin (W.V.), and Sen. Jon Tester (Mont.) — for voting against Republican-backed legislation.

Support among Americans for gun control measures included in the amendments has not been higher since one month after the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Monday.
