Amber Heard Reportedly Accuses Johnny Depp of Domestic Violence

May 27th 2016

Update: 1:11 p.m. PST: Multiple outlets are reporting that Los Angeles Superior Court has granted Amber Heard a protective restraining order against actor Johnny Depp, following accusations of domestic violence.

Previously:

Actress Amber Heard, who filed for divorce from Johnny Depp this week after 15 months of marriage, is making a serious allegation against the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor.

According to TMZ, who broke the story, Heard alleges that Depp "physically assaulted" her multiple times during the course of their brief marriage. With a visibly bruised face, Heard appeared in court Friday morning with her lawyer, asking for a restraining order from Depp.

Police reportedly responded to the alleged attack on May 21, according to TMZ, who obtained an image of a Los Angeles Police officer's business card with information apparently stating that Heard refused to press charges against her husband at the time and did not want to file a police report.

"Ms. Heard is in the building and in the area where restraining orders are filed, but the paperwork has not been officially filed yet," Mary Hearn, Public Information Director, Los Angeles Superior Court told ATTN:.

According to Hearn, in order to receive a restraining order, the individual has to "file the prevention, and set out the circumstances by which they feel the order is necessary."

About the allegations

During one alleged attack, Heard claims the actor "smashed his iPhone" on her face. TMZ reported the full story:

"Johnny shattered various objects in the apartment. She says she was on the phone with a friend during the fight, and when Johnny grabbed her phone she screamed to her friend, 'Call the cops!' The friend called 911 and cops came to the residence.

Amber says when cops arrived Johnny had already fled, so they took a report."

TMZ also reports that Heard claims that was offered money to stay quiet and that she has a video of the alleged beatings.

The public reaction is intense.

TMZ posted the story on their Facebook page, where hundreds of comments poured in, mostly in support of the actor.

Many accuse Heard of lying.

Some comments accuse other Facebook commenters of victim blaming.

And some comments think of this as a race issue.

But one comment in particular illustrates the reason why many victims of abuse do not come forward.
