Twitter Is Exploding After Larry Wilmore's White House Correspondents' Dinner Ending

May 1st 2016

Comedian and host of Comedy Central's "The Nightly Show," Larry Wilmore hosted Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Dinner, and Twitter is erupting over the way he ended his monologue. “So Mr. President, I’m going to keep it 100," Wilmore said. "Yo, Barry, you did it my n***a!”

That line concluded the comedian's monologue — which was alternately hokey, somber, uncomfortable, ruthless, but overall humorous. It touched on everything from the President's failed promise to close Guantanamo, his use of drones, race, and the current 2016 presidential election — particularly mocking Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Wilmore however, dedicated the end of his speech to explaining how much Barack Obama's presidency meant to him. "When I was a kid, I lived in a country where people couldn't accept a Black quarterback," he said. "But now, we live in a time when a Black man can lead the entire free world."

And while the monologue is garnering mixed reviews and was oftentimes ill-received by the press — he mocked print journalism, CNN, MSNBC, and specifically singled out anchors Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer — his last line set Twitter ablaze.

Twitter users also reminded people that Wilmore's use of the N-Word does NOT give white people license to use it.
