On Saturday morning, comedian Louis C.K. reached out to fans via a morning e-mail promoting the latest episode of his web series "Horace and Pete," but also slipped in a lengthy and serious letter targeting Donald Trump.

In the cautionary note, Louis C.K. did not hold back, going so far as to compare Trump to Adolf Hitler: "Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the ’30s. Do you think they saw the shit coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.”

This analysis might have been brutal but it's certainly valid in the sense that Hitler's rise was viewed by many as sudden and unexpected. As Vox reported on Thursday, in the 1920's Hitler's anti-Semitism was perceived as neither particularly dangerous nor genuine. Comparatively, Trump's tendency to say literally anything, however offensive or unfounded reflects some of Hitler's worst words about Jews, gay and disabled people. 

His proposal for a registry for Muslims, while suggested months ago, is comparable to policies implemented by Hitler himself.

C.K. reveals in the e-mail that he would actually support a conservative candidate after eight years of Obama for the sake of "balance," but that Trump is not that candidate.

"He's an insane bigot. He is dangerous," C.K. wrote, and he offered no shortage of evidence of this, citing things like Trump's proposed ideas for changing libel laws so that he could sue anyone who "writes a negative hit piece" about him, suggesting that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will have to pay Trump for criticizing him.

But on a more empathetic note, C.K. also claimed that he understood where support for Trump was coming from, but that voters need to know Trump isn't the solution to their disillusionment:

The whole game feels rigged and it’s not going anywhere but down anymore. I feel that way sometimes.

And that voting for Trump is a way of saying “fuck it. Fuck them all”. I really get it. It’s a version of national Suicide. ... Somehow we can’t help it. Or we know that if we vote for Trump our phones will be a reliable source of dopamine for the next four years. I mean I can’t wait to read about Trump every day. It’s a rush. But you have to know this is not healthy. ...

A vote for Trump is so clearly a gut-vote, and again I get it. But add a little brain to it and look the guy up. Because if you vote for him because of how you feel right now, the minute he’s president, you’re going to regret it. ...

He’s a symptom to a problem that is very real. But don’t vote for your own cancer. You’re better than that.

C.K. concludes by conceding that while he isn't necessarily "qualified or particularly educated," to speak on politics, voters still need to take Trump's character into consideration. He also drew yet another comparison between Trump and Hitler: 

Trump has nothing to do with politics or ideology. He has to do with himself. ... And really I’m not saying he’s evil or a monster. In fact I don’t think Hitler was. The problem with saying that guys like that are monsters is that we don’t see them coming when they turn out to be human, which they all are. ... Trump is a messed up guy with a hole in his heart that he tries to fill with money and attention. He can never ever have enough of either and he’ll never stop trying.

C.K. is just the latest public figure to take a hard stance against Trump this week, including to Miley Cyrus and even fellow conservatives such as 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who expressed his concerns via Twitter. 

But by comparing Trump to everything from cancer to Hitler, Louis C.K.'s anti-Trump rant was arguably the boldest yet.
