Taylor Swift Just Did Something Big For Kesha

February 22nd 2016

Taylor Swift has given $250,000 to Kesha, who was denied an injunction that would have released her from her contract with Sony producer Dr. Luke last week. This comes after Swift faced mounting social media pressure to speak up about Kesha's court outcome. Because Swift has celebrated feminism in recent years, many felt that helping Kesha would be a bold act of feminism on her part.

"In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time," wrote a spokesperson for Swift in a statement.

Kesha, who claims Dr. Luke sexually and emotionally abused her, received the support of several celebrities over the weekend, including Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Lorde, and Lady Gaga. Many quickly called upon Swift to help Kesha as well:

Many also suspected that fellow singer Demi Lovato took subtle digs at Swift in a series of tweets that referenced Kesha's situation. JustJared also reports that Lovato wrote on a Swift Instagram fan page post, explaining that she has no "rivalry" with Swift, but that she "would rather start a dialogue about women coming forward about getting raped than throw money at one person."

Some on Twitter are echoing Lovato, saying that money is not the only answer in these situations:

On the other hand, Swift does have her supporters, who point out that $250,000 is significant help to someone struggling with a legal problem:

Last week, Kesha shared several hopeful images on Instagram leading up to her court appearance:

"Tomorrow this is me + u guys," she wrote. "Every one of you who has sent me sweet messages thoughts or energy. I am so grateful."
