The post was captioned, "The love you take is equal to the love you make," and it earned the applause of many commenters, who proudly shared their own gay and lesbian relationships.

The brand responded to the firestorm of homophobic criticism perfectly—with a hand wave and kiss emoji.

Pro-LGBT commenters stepped in to voice their support for Adidas and slam the inflammatory homophobic remarks.

Adidas' Instagram post drew over 106,000 comments and 200,000 likes by Monday evening.

Despite some homophobic commenters' stated preferences for Nike over Adidas, Nike has also openly supported the LGBT community. The brand released the pride-themed #BeTrue line of shoes in 2013.

Nike also hosts a yearly LGBT sports summit.
