When Republican front-runner Donald Trump arrived in Springfield, Illinois, for a campaign event on Monday, Johari Idusuyi and her friends figured they'd take the opportunity to see a presidential candidate and hear what he had to say firsthand.

But after seeing protestors ejected from the convention center, Idusuyi lost interest in the speech and started to read a book.

"Some a mix of educated and uneducated, everyone on the spectrum cheering for such ignorance and that's when I was just taken a back and that's when my energy had shifted," Idusuyi told News Channel 20, a local ABC affiliate.

A man sitting behind her apparently took issue with Idusuyi's lack of interest, however, and tapped her on the shoulder, urging her to pay attention to Trump. Video of the encounter went viral.

Idusuyi says that she was initially told that the seating section behind Trump was VIP only, but shortly after arriving, a man approached the group and invited them to sit there, "probably for obvious reasons," she said, suggesting that Trump's campaign wanted to give the impression of diversity by seating Black people behind the candidate.

"I came here, yes, to observe a man that I already had low expectations for, but I thought maybe he could change my mind," Idusuyi told the local ABC affiliate. But before long, she determined that "[h]e was exactly what I expected him to be and his supporters are exactly what I expected them to be."

So Idusuyi pulled out a book—"Citizen: An American Lyric," a collection of poems about racism in America—and began reading.

She said that some supporters did tell her that she could leave, but since she wasn't interrupting anything, she intended to stay and said as much.
