Serena Williams Shares a Dramatic Story About Confronting a Thief

November 4th 2015

Wimbledon champion Serena Williams just made a strong case for following your gut in a Facebook post describing how she confronted a guy who took her phone in a restaurant. Williams, who many have called the greatest athlete around, opened her post by saying that her "Superhero" sense triggered when a man standing near her at the restaurant made her feel uncomfortable and eerie.

Next thing she knew, he grabbed her phone and left. But here's the thing about stealing from Serena Williams: her Supergirl instinct and athletic skill will kick in, and she'll run after you.

"Not thinking I reacted (hence the superwoman photo) I jumped up, weaved my way in and out of the cozy restaurant (leaping over a chair or two) and chased him down," she wrote on Facebook. "He began to run but I was too fast. (Those sprints came in handy) I was upon him in a flash!"

Williams got her phone back from the man, who claimed he'd merely confused her own phone with his device. But Williams didn't have time to hear his story.

"My phone was ringing, my superhero sidekick quailman was face timing me so he could not possibly deny the allegations," she wrote. "I swiftly thanked him and left. Superhero? Maybe? Or HELL YEA!! I've got the speed the jumps, the power, the body, the seduction, the sex appeal, the strength, the leadership and yet the calm to weather the storm."

Williams returned to the restaurant and received a standing ovation from the room.

"I was proud. I just showed every man in there I can stand up to bully's and other men. It was a win for the ladies!" she wrote.

Her final message to female fans was to always keep their belongings nearby and listen to their inner Supergirl.

"I've got the speed the jumps, the power, the body, the seduction, the sex appeal, the strength, the leadership and yet the calm to weather the storm," she wrote. "Always listen to your superhero inner voice. Always keep your things close! Fight for what's right. Stand for what you believe in! Be a superhero! ... Just because you are a lady don't be afraid to step up to any challenge and not be a victim but a hero! SuperSerena and her sidekick quailman."

She received a lot of love for this move on social media, including from model Gigi Hadid:
