Alyssa Milano's Halloween Costume Had A Great Feminist Message

November 2nd 2015

Actress Alyssa Milano continues to advocate for the normalization of breastfeeding: This time, using Halloween to do it.

On Thursday, the actress shared an Instagram post of her dressed up as Wonder Woman with the hashtag #normalizebreastfeeding.

Erasing the stigma and negative perception surrounding breastfeeding and breastfeeding in public is something the actress has been crusading for. The actress recently wrote a somewhat controversial piece for Time about breastfeeding and the Free the Nipple campaign:

"Normalizing breastfeeding will be a lot more effective in advancing women’s issues and desexualizing breasts," Milano argued. "Yes, they’re pretty. And yes, they have a purpose in women’s sexuality. But their main purpose is to feed another human."

Earlier this year, Milano received criticism when she posted photos of her breastfeeding her daughter on Instagram.

As ATTN: reported, many women have come under fire for displaying themselves breastfeeding in a public forum, something that Milano attributes to society's one dimensional perception of breasts and irrational discomfort.

"Everyone's fine with nipples being out." Milano told Entertainment Tonight in September. "I think people are more comfortable sexualizing breasts than relating them to what they are made for, which is feeding another human."

Although Milano's Instagram post has received some negative feedback, it is has been met with overwhelming support and has inspired similar posts.

And to all her critics, Milano answered them back in September. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Milano indicated she had no intention of doing things differently.

"I don't care," Milano said. "I'm going to keep breastfeeding, maybe until she [Milano's daughter] is 6!"
