The Internet's Best Responses to Martin Shkreli

September 23rd 2015

Martin Shkreli, the founder and CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, announced that he would lower the price of the life-saving drug that his company acquired last month. The decision was made after Shkreli received widespread criticism for raising the price of Daraprim, a drug that treats parasitic infections and helps AIDS and cancer patients, from $13.50 to $750 per pill.

"Yes, it is absolutely a reaction," Shkreli told NBC News on Tuesday. "There were mistakes made with respect to helping people understand why we took this action, I think that it makes sense to lower the price in response to the anger that was felt by people."

Shkreli has yet to say what the new cost of the drug will be, but in the meantime, the internet has continued to express its collective outrage about the initial price hike, posting memes on Facebook, Tumblr, and Reddit that highlight the apparent greed of the former hedge fund manager, who originally defended the 5,000 percent price inflation of a drug that is considered a standard treatment option for many suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

These 8 memes perfectly capture the internet's response to Martin Shkreli.
