Donald Trump Dodged Another Birther Question on 'The Late Show'

September 23rd 2015

GOP front-runner Donald Trump went on the "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Tuesday night to discuss his candidacy and some key policy proposals in the race—but he dodged "a big fat meatball" of a question when Colbert asked if he believed President Barack Obama was a U.S.-born citizen.

If he answered the question on the show, Colbert said, Trump would never have to address the issue again.

"I don't talk about it anymore," Trump said with a coy smile. "I talk about jobs. I'm talking about the veterans who are being treated like third-class citizens, they're treated worse than illegals... I'm talking about the military building up—those are the things I'm talking about. I'm not talking about that."

The question comes around the 3:30 mark:

As far as the meatball reference goes, Colbert said that it was "now being dragged down the steps of a subway by a rat right now," in reference to a viral video this week of a New York rat dragging a slice of pizza down some subway steps. "You missed the meatball," Colbert said.

Trump has previously come under fire for his "birther" stance, and his appearance on the "Late Show" comes as the primary candidate makes headlines for not addressing another question about the president—this time from a supporter claiming that the president is a Muslim.
