Pres. Obama's Response to #IStandWithAhmed is Worth Your Praise

The story of Ahmed Mohamed, a 14-year-old student who was arrested on Monday after school officials in Irving, Texas, suspected that his homemade clock was a bomb, has inspired an outpouring of support on social media—including a special message from President Obama.

Ahmed, who has avidly pursued his interests in robotics and engineering, wanted to impress his teachers by showing them the clock that he built. However, after the alarm went of in his English class, school officials at MacArthur High called the police, suspended him, and interrogated him before transporting Ahmed to a juvenile detention center.

On Twitter, there has been a stream of encouragement for Ahmed, and President Obama extended an offer for the student to bring his clock to the White House. "Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?" Obama Tweeted on Wednesday. "We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great."

 

Democratic presidential primary candidate Hillary Clinton also shared her thoughts on the apparently misguided arrest of Ahmed.
