Want to See a College Admissions Video on Truth Serum?

October 27th 2014

Winchester University (aka: every name University) is a college "alive with purpose and passion" says this admissions video from the Dear White People Youtube channel.

"There are at least a handful of people here who don't look anything like me," says one student in the commercial.

"When I was applying to Winchester I checked out the website," says another student in the video, "they had a black dude in like every picture... And then I realized, I am that dude now. I'm the black dude they promote in every picture!"

All kidding aside, this lampooning infomercial invokes serious issues about the lack of diversity on America's college campuses.

Researchers at Georgetown University recently found that at the most competitive colleges, only 14% of students come from the lower 50% of families by income, a figure that has not increased over more than two decades, which indicates that university pledges to diversify have not materialized.

But one easy way to achieve such diversity? Lower the cost of tuition.

Maybe we should take a cue from Germany, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, or England's playbook...

They do the exact opposite of what America does when it comes to higher education. Learn more here
