Jon Stewart Has A Brilliant Idea For How To Replace the Confederate Flag

June 25th 2015

Jon Stewart added his voice again to the Confederate flag debate on Wednesday night, arguing that proponents of the controversial symbol are defending the indefensible

"They fought for the South against the United States because of slavery. That's the heritage you're defending," he said. "I'm sure your soldier ancestors had other redeeming qualities, but this is the thing that they're known for. It would be like saying you support flying the Nazi flag because you’re proud of their robust anti-smoking agenda. But that wasn’t really their thing.”

As ATTN: reported earlier this week, confederate flags are toppling quickly, and major retailers are cancelling their sales of all related paraphernalia. On Tuesday, Amazon joined eBay, Sears, Kmart, Etsy, and Walmart in announcing a ban on selling Confederate merchandise in the wake of the mass shooting at the Emanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina last week that left nine dead.

Stewart ended his monologue by suggesting the Confederate flag be replaced with something that all Southerners can be more proud of: an image of a pig being barbequed.
