White Nationalists Rejoice Over Trump's Attorney General Pick

November 18th 2016

President-Elect Donald Trump has just chosen Jeff Sessions, a Republican Senator from Alabama, to serve as his Attorney General. Trump's supporters, especially those who gravitated toward the candidate's anti-immigrant message, are celebrating the move.

The Republican Senator has made his anti-immigration stance clear. His website states: "Senator Sessions is committed to immigration reform that serves the national interest – not the special interests – and that curbs the unprecedented flow of immigration that is sapping the wages and job prospects of those living and working here today." according to his website.

David Duke, the former Louisiana state legislator and Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, tweeted that the appointment of Sessions was one of the "first steps in the project of taking America back."

Duke referred to Sessions as one of Trump's "3 Trumpeteers."

In March, Trump publicly spoke out against Duke's frequent endorsements, saying "I disavowed him. I disavowed the KKK. Do you want me to do it again for the 12th time? I disavowed him in the past, I disavow him now," CNN reported at the time.

Trump supporters are rejoicing online, seeing Trump's selection of Sessions as proof that the candidate will make his anti-immigration promises a reality.

Andrew Anglin, founder of the White nationalist website Daily Stormer, wrote that the appointment of Sessions was "like Christmas," Think Progress reported.

Sessions' past comments are likely to face deeper scrutiny during Senate confirmation hearings, which we must clear before taking the post of attorney general.

He's been accused of making racist comments that denied him a federal judgeship by a Senate committee in 1986, according to The Washington Post. As they further elaborate:

"His former colleagues testified Sessions used the n-word and joked about the Ku Klux Klan, saying he thought they were 'okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana.'"

Also in 1980's, Sessions said in a deposition the NAACP and ACLU are "un-American," CNN reports.
