George Takei Slams Donald Trump's Criticism of Obama

September 18th 2016

George Takei — the "Star Trek" actor, activist, and prominent social media enemy of Donald Trump — has once again slammed the Republican presidential nominee with a single tweet.

Trump tweeted that President Barack Obama should be working instead of campaigning for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Takei responded with a stinging tweet of his own, calling Trump a threat that Obama must defend the country against.

Campaigning for his party makes sense from a policy perspective.

Beyond party loyalty, there is a policy reason that Obama is campaigning for Clinton: She will be more likely to build on his legacy and keep his policies in place.

At a speech on Saturday to the Congressional Black Caucus, Obama framed the election as a choice between someone who will continue his work and someone who wants to destroy it.

"My name may not be on the ballot, but our progress is on the ballot. (Applause.) Tolerance is on the ballot. Democracy is on the ballot. (Applause.) Justice is on the ballot. Good schools are on the ballot. (Applause.) Ending mass incarceration — that's on the ballot right now! (Applause.)

"And there is one candidate who will advance those things. And there's another candidate whose defining principle, the central theme of his candidacy is opposition to all that we've done."

Clinton was Obama's secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, and much of her campaign has centered on continuing in the direction of Obama's policies.

Much of Trump's campaign has centered on slamming Clinton's time as secretary of state and negatively tying her to the Obama administration.

There are seven more weeks until election day on Nov. 8.
