Photos Show How Anxiety Warps Everyday Situations

July 28th 2016

Millions of Americans suffer from anxiety disorders, and if you're one of them, normal parts of everyday life can feel unbearable at times. One artist has shed light on this reality through a series of illustrations highlighting the internal warfare that anxiety creates.

Pranita Kocharekar, an illustrator based in India, has gained a lot of attention on Instagram for her illustration project, Acknowledge Anxiety. She started creating illustrations about anxiety after suffering from it herself and talking about anxiety with friends, she recently told The Huffington Post.

Kocharekar's illustrations show how regular situations and habits can be incredibly distressing for people with anxious thoughts. For example, someone with anxiety may always assume they are about to get fired when her boss asks to have a meeting:

People with anxiety may worry as soon as they realize they haven't been worried in a while:

"It's very easy for a person suffering through anxiety to worry about having anxiety," Kocharekar told The Huffington Post. "I hope that my illustrations will ease them a little."

People with anxiety may even struggle to enjoy dinner with a loved one if there's a romantic candle on the table:

Anxiety can make a person panic if a scheduled call doesn't take place on time:

Even reading the newspaper and Googling illness symptoms online can instill crippling fear in anxiety sufferers:

A lot of people have showered her anxiety posts with appreciation:
